Pakistan Evaluation Network (PEN)
 
2. Introduction:

Pakistan Evaluation Network - PEN is a professional network that has been initiated in 2004 to address challenges of transparency, professionalism and performance of national organizations in the development sector through development monitoring and evaluation.

Monitoring and Evaluation is a part of planning in Pakistan; however it is being side tracked in the process of implementation. That motivated launching of PEN to place a direct focus on the concept and practice of development monitoring and evaluation

 
3. Objective:
To promote knowledge on development evaluation, build capacity of national organizations and develop networks for experience sharing and mutual learning for creating an environment of transparency, professionalism and high performance to serve people.
 
4. Organization/Membership:
PEN has established a general body and an executive body (board) consisting of seven founder members and three co-opted members from diverse professional backgrounds. The number of members is 57 at present, out of which 7 are corporate members.
 
5. Range of Services/Activities:
  The range of services includes:
• Advocacy, Awareness Raising and Training
• M&E System Development
• Research and Publication
• Management Consultancy
• Development Programming and Projects
• Networking / building partnerships
 
6. Program 2008:

Organizing RealWorld Evaluation Workshop in collaboration with IOCE – July 2008 at ERRA
Participating in M&E training organized by National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) – May/June 2008
Participating in American Evaluation Association - November 2008

Networking with International Organizations:
PEN is well connected internationally. It is an Associate Member of International Organization for Cooperation on Evaluation – IOCE, USA. It also has the intellectual and technical support on the subject from international forums i.e.:

• International Development Evaluation Association – IDEAS, UK
• Programme Planning & Evaluation, Inc. Michigan, USA
• Malaysian Evaluation Society, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
 
8. Networking with National Organizations:
PEN has strong network with national organizations such as government departments, private sector and non-profit social sector organizations including trade unions across Pakistan.
