Senior Evaluation Specialist

The International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) is a non-profit organization that conducts policy-oriented research, provides technical assistance, and undertakes strategic communications efforts to improve the economic, health and social status of women in the developing world.

ICRW’s Population and Social Transitions team seeks a Senior Evaluation Specialist to provide leadership in providing measurement and evaluation support to the Nike Foundation and its grantees. The Nike Foundation provides support to over 50 organizations working to empower girls around the world, and ICRW is the Foundation’s measurement partner, ensuring that grantees are able to collect and analyze appropriate data to demonstrate results.

The incumbent will function as a senior member of the ICRW measurement team for the Nike Foundation, with primary responsibility for ensuring that the team provides well-conceptualized guidance to the Foundation and its grantees in framing and assessing key questions for performance, process, and impact evaluation. He/she will ensure that methodologies for monitoring and evaluation are appropriate for the questions at hand, and in line with the grantees’ capabilities. Responsibilities will include conceptual and instrument design, program design, research training and capacity building, data management and analysis, and synthesis of project results in reports, presentations, and papers. Responsibilities will also include providing technical oversight and guidance to project staff, partnership engagement, and donor engagement. The incumbent will play a role in the development of proposals and the team’s fundraising activities, and will be expected to maintain and expand professional networks.

Our ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. or equivalent in economics, demography, public health, sociology, or related field, with a strong substantive background in gender as it relates to economic, population, health, and broader development issues. A minimum 6 years of experience required. A Masters with additional years of experience will be considered. This position also requires strong exposure to on the ground interventions and to the challenges of program implementation and evaluation. Candidates must have qualitative and quantitative research skills; experience in field research, expertise in evaluation research, survey methodologies and implementation. Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation abilities are essential. Experience with field based programs in South Asia and/or Africa is important.

Expertise in microfinance, business and social enterprise development, and/or livelihoods strongly preferred. Expertise in youth and adolescent issues a major plus.
